High tide peaks, Ho Chi Minh City and 2 downstream provinces of Dong Nai River at risk of flooding

On October 19, Dong Nai Hydrometeorological Station informed that the water level in the lower reaches of Dong Nai River and La Nga River is at a high level, with a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, adversely affecting water transport activities, aquaculture, and agricultural production in rivers, streams, and river banks.

Accordingly, the water level at 7:00 a.m. the same day at Bien Hoa station (downstream of Dong Nai river) reached 2.01m (exceeding alarm level 2), at Phu Hiep station (La Nga river) reached 104.94m, above alarm level 1.

According to forecasts, the peak tide level at Bien Hoa station is likely to reach 2.11m at 7pm on October 19 (between alert levels 2 and 3), then gradually decrease in the following days. Meanwhile, the water level at Phu Hiep station is decreasing slowly, but is still higher than alert level 1. The peak tide in Dong Nai once recorded a historical high of 2.19m.

Dong Nai Hydrometeorological Station warns that low-lying areas along the river in the lower reaches of Dong Nai River, through Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City provinces, are at risk of flooding due to high tides. In Bien Hoa City, Ba Xe Islet, Thai Hoa residential area (Long Binh Tan ward) are at risk of flooding this evening.

In addition, low-lying areas along the La Nga River in communes of Tan Phu and Dinh Quan districts (Dong Nai), Tanh Linh and Duc Linh districts (Binh Thuan) are at risk of being flooded.

According to the meteorological agency, high tides combined with heavy rains require people to be on guard against flooding and landslides on river banks and low-lying areas in Tan Phu and Dinh Quan districts; the downstream of the Dong Nai River and neighboring areas.
