According to informed sources, recently, the US technology corporation Amazon has closed its artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory in Shanghai (China).

News of the closure of a lab belonging to the cloud computing division of Amazon Web Services (AWS) comes as AI is at the heart of the technology race between China and the US.

In a screenshot of a WeChat post widely shared on Chinese social media this week, Wang Minjie, a scientist at the lab, said the dissolution was due to strategic adjustments between China and the United States.

Last week, AWS announced layoffs that could number in the hundreds. Amazon declined to directly confirm the closure of the Shanghai lab.

In recent times, other US technology companies such as Microsoft and IBM have also downsized their research departments in China, as the technology competition between Washington and Beijing shows no signs of cooling down./.
