China sends youngest crew ever into space

The average age of the crew this time is 38, four years younger than the astronauts of Shenzhou 16, according to China Daily.

According to the China Manned Space Administration, the average age of the three astronauts this time is the youngest since China began its mission to build a space station.

China is pursuing plans to send astronauts to the moon before the end of the decade, a goal Beijing has set as it competes with the United States to achieve new milestones in space.

The three astronauts, Tang Hongbo - 48 years old, Tang Shengjie and Jiang Xinlin, all in their 30s, will stay on the Tiangong space station for 6 months. Crew commander Tang Hongbo participated in the 2021 space mission.

Tiangong - the most precious asset of China's space program, is continuously operated by rotating crews of three astronauts.

Shenzhou 17 was the 30th space flight of China's manned space program.
