The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on February 11 accused Chinese vessels of “dangerous” actions during a nine-day patrol near Scarborough Shoal, which Beijing also claims and calls Huangyan, off the coast of the Southeast Asian nation.

In a statement, the PCG said China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels “conducted four dangerous and obstructive actions at sea against the (Philippine) BRP Teresa Magbanua, during which the CCG vessels crossed the PCG vessel’s bow twice.”

The Philippines this month deployed the BRP Teresa Magbanua to patrol the waters around Scarborough Shoal and "ensure the safety of Filipino fishermen in the area."

During the patrol, the PCG said its ship was “shadowed” more than 40 times by four CCG vessels. The PCG also observed what it described as “four Chinese maritime militia vessels.”

The Chinese Embassy in Manila has not yet responded when asked to comment on the above information.
