One of the most obvious problems is people.
Uneven lineup
Coach Tran Dinh Tien has some good players like setter Nguyen Van Quoc Duy and striker Nguyen Ngoc Thuan. But from the first day to the last day, this duo had to work hard continuously.
In five-game matches like against Qatar or Indonesia, Ngoc Thuan and Quoc Duy had times when they were clearly exhausted. Although they still had high scoring efficiency, they had many offensive errors - a sign of declining physical strength.
Quoc Duy's situation might have been a little better when he was replaced by Quoc Du - an experienced opposite setter. But with Ngoc Thuan, he had to plow continuously without a single minute of rest.
This is because the Vietnamese team does not have a main striker capable of replacing Ngoc Thuan. Captain Quan Trong Nghia, Hoang Xuan Truong, and Duong Van Tien may be okay in the first step, but in the attack, they cannot carry the burden like Ngoc Thuan.
Other positions such as the middle blocker and setter were also over-exploited, leading to physical exhaustion until the final match. Although criticized for not having timely substitution options, it is also necessary to recognize that coach Tran Dinh Tien did not have enough reserve options to replace the main players.
Defense concerns
The next big problem for the team is in defense. Although the middle blockers like Truong The Khai (1.97m) and Tran Duy Tuyen (1.9m) are tall, they are not agile enough to block in time.
Therefore, many times the Vietnamese team's blockers were fooled by the opponent's passers, leading to them dropping the block or being blocked. Backup options such as Thanh Hai and Che Quoc Vo Lit have not been given many opportunities to play, so their ability to contribute is also limited.
The defensive ability of the back line has not met expectations. Libero Cao Duc Hoang, who was praised in the club-level tournament AVC Champions League a few months ago, made many mistakes in the first step at the AVC Nations Cup. Ngoc Thuan and Quan Trong Nghia are relatively good players in the first step. However, being pushed too much by the opponent has significantly limited their attacking ability.
Tactics and physical strength are also problems that the Vietnamese men's volleyball team had to face in the recent tournament.

Attack Mark
Despite many problems, the Vietnamese team still has certain bright spots. Among them, we must praise the diverse attacking ability of Ngoc Thuan and Quoc Duy. They are the ones who score the most points on the team thanks to powerful smashes or delicate drop shots.
The duo also handled many situations well when receiving unfavorable passes. Ngoc Thuan scored 93 points, while Quoc Duy also had 83 points, both were the best players of the team.
Although Thế Khải and Duy Tuyến have not performed well in defense, they have shown good attacking ability in the number 3 position. This pair of middle blockers are also in the top 25 scorers of the AVC Nations Cup. The good performance of the attacking positions comes not only from the individual efforts of each player, but also from the ability to coordinate well with the setters.
Dinh Van Duy has shown that he is the best setter in the country at the moment with his ability to control the ball properly, at the right range, and many times fool the opponent. Option two, Phan Cong Duc, has also played well in many moments when given the opportunity.
Last year, the Vietnamese team lost all the SEA V.League tournaments when Van Duy was injured and there was no setter capable of replacing him. This AVC Nations Cup has greatly improved that problem.
