Vietnam replaced 8 players from the starting lineup in the opening match against host China, losing 1-2, only keeping goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, captain midfielder Nguyen Thai Son and striker Nguyen Quoc Viet. Coach Dinh Hong Vinh wanted to create conditions for other players to compete, because they rarely play domestically. The team also did not set a goal of achieving results in this tournament, but only focused on the element of competition and experience accumulation, to build a strong U23 team for the 2025 SEA Games.

The match between Vietnam and Uzbekistan took place at 3 p.m. Hanoi time, 30 minutes later than the original schedule, due to heavy rain. Facing a strong opponent, coach Dinh Hong Vinh's team played somewhat poorly from the start of the match. The team only kept a clean sheet until the 17th minute, before a defender committed a foul in the penalty area, allowing Abdurazzokov to score the opening goal from a penalty kick. In the 25th minute, Uzbekistan doubled the gap with a beautiful long-range shot from Ollabergan.

After this goal, coach Dinh Hong Vinh instructed his players to boldly hold the ball to organize attacks. The team started to create opportunities in the second half of the first half but failed to take advantage. Quoc Viet missed a shot when facing the opposing goalkeeper in the 39th minute, then missed a free kick right before the 16m50 line.

In the second half, coach Dinh Hong Vinh sent Dinh Bac, Duc Viet, Thanh Nhan in to replace Ngoc Son, Duc Phu and Xuan Bac to refresh the attacking ability. The team played better, creating many dangerous situations compared to the first half. However, Vietnam's strikers did not finish well, missing many good opportunities. The score of 2-0 for Uzbekistan remained until the end of the match.

This is Vietnam's second consecutive loss at the U22 CFA Team China 2024 friendly tournament. On the opening day, the team lost 1-2 to host China with the deciding goal coming in the last minute. Coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team will play their final match against Malaysia at 6:35 p.m. on September 10.
