Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên04/03/2024

The incident is the latest in a series of recent explosions on Russia's rail network, which Kyiv accuses Moscow of using to transport troops and equipment for its war in Ukraine.

"A railway bridge over the Chapaevka River in Russia's Samara region was blown up. At around 06:00 on March 4, 2024 (02:00 GMT), the bridge was damaged because its supporting structures collapsed," AFP quoted a statement from Ukraine's military intelligence agency on March 4.

"Due to the damage, the railway bridge will not be usable for a long time," the agency said.

Russia said it was using the railway to transport ammunition from a factory in the town of Chapayevsk in Samara province.

The Russian railway operator earlier said "intervention by unauthorized persons" had caused the incident but said no one was injured.

"Rail traffic is currently disrupted in the area," the company said.

Russia's TASS news agency quoted a rescue source as saying that "an explosive device damaged a pillar of the railway bridge" across the Chapaevka River.

Located on the Volga River, Samara province is one of Russia's important heavy industrial centers, according to Reuters.

In recent months, Russia has reported a series of attacks on its industrial and logistics infrastructure, blaming Ukraine for them. Kyiv rarely claims responsibility for attacks on Russian territory.
