How does drinking too many sweets affect heart disease?

Regularly eating sweets, whether cakes, candies or sugary soft drinks, will make the body gain weight and increase the risk of heart disease. However, there is a common belief that exercise can help the body burn more calories and prevent this risk. However, new research published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that this may not be true, according to the science website Science Daily (USA).

Eating too many sweets increases the risk of heart disease.

The study analyzed health data from more than 100,000 adults. The data was collected over a period of about 30 years. At the start of the study, all participants were free of any chronic diseases.

During the study, participants' consumption of sugary drinks and artificial sweeteners was reported every four years. In addition, their physical activity intensity and duration were collected every two years.

In addition, issues that affect the risk of heart disease, such as coronary artery disease, were also monitored throughout the study. The goal of the study was to find a link between regular consumption of sugary drinks and physical activity and cardiovascular disease.

The results showed that drinking sugary drinks increases the risk of cardiovascular disease regardless of physical activity levels. Health authorities often recommend that people do at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. However, the study found that even doing this does not completely prevent the risk of heart disease if people regularly drink sugary drinks.

The study authors note that while regular exercise can reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 50 percent, it is not enough to counteract the harmful effects of high sugar intake.

In addition, the authors said that drinks using artificial sweeteners do not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, they still recommend replacing these drinks with water because this is considered the healthiest drink, according to Science Daily .
