The 1-1 draw against India at Thien Truong Stadium on October 12 marked Van Quyet’s last appearance for the Vietnam national team. After this match, he announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.

The striker of Hanoi FC shared: "Personally, I regret not having won today. The Vietnamese team did not play well. I was substituted in the last minutes so I tried very hard. No matter how long I played, I played to the best of my ability, but there were mistakes when playing with young players and a new tactical system.

I am an experienced person, I really want to score when I return to the national team but I am willing to create conditions for my teammates. The Vietnamese team missed too many opportunities. I want to participate in more big tournaments with spirit and determination. But now my physical condition is not good anymore, I cannot meet the requirements. This will be the last match I wear the national team shirt."

This decision was shared by Van Quyet with head coach Kim Sang Sik and his teammates in the locker room after the match. He said that although he still has the desire to contribute to the team, at the present time his physical condition does not allow him to compete at high intensity at the national team level. The team needs to give more opportunities to the younger generation of players.

In the last match wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey, Van Quyet played well, creating many opportunities for his young teammates.

Van Quyet also said he was surprised to be called up for this training session and to play in front of fans. The player himself wants to continue playing, but he thinks that now is the time for young players to show themselves. Finally, he sent his best wishes to his teammates: "I hope the Vietnamese team will play well and the young players will soon integrate. I will always accompany them in any position. Over the past 18 years, I have always tried my best and I hope that Vietnamese football will develop and the national team will grow stronger."

Van Quyet was born in 1991 and started playing for the Vietnam national team in 2011. He has 60 appearances for the national team and scored 16 goals. In 2018, he and the "Golden Star Warriors" won the AFF Cup under the guidance of coach Park Hang-seo.

At the press conference after the friendly match with the Indian team, coach Kim Sang-sik said that Van Quyet had shared with him his plan to retire from the national team. "It's been a long time since he's been called up to the national team, but he's still a player who receives great respect from many sides. I want to thank Van Quyet for his dedication to the national team and wish him success in his upcoming plans," coach Kim Sang-sik said.
