Accordingly, the proposed ticket prices are in many types corresponding to different price levels. Specifically, the price of a one-way ticket is 9,000 - 24,000 VND/trip; the price of a one-way ticket paid by a top-up card is 7,000 - 18,000 VND/trip; the price of a one-day ticket is 48,000 VND, the price of a 3-day ticket is 108,000 VND; the monthly ticket for general passengers is 330,000 VND/month; the monthly ticket for students is 165,000 VND.
Ho Chi Minh City metro line 1 is in the testing phase.
The ticket structure is built based on the previous proposal of the Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR). In addition, there are free and reduced tickets for priority subjects according to the law and social security policies of the city.
Regarding the proposal to exempt or reduce ticket prices for special passengers on Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27), International Women's Day (March 8), International Children's Day (June 1), War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27), etc., it should be noted that this will only be implemented when approved in writing by the specialized management agency.
The Public Transport Management Center said the proposed fare is based on the investor's report with the current bus fare plan, and at the same time, compared with the ticket price of the Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line to ensure reasonable price and affordability of passengers during the route's operation phase.
"With the proposed ticket price of 9,000 - 24,000 VND/trip, the cost of using metro line 1 is suitable for passengers' willingness to pay according to research by technical support project experts" - the center assessed.
However, determining the ticket price of metro line 1 must satisfy the conditions of attracting people to use the service, at the same time be suitable for people's ability to pay and the ability to balance the budget for subsidies. Because metro line 1 has not yet been put into operation and is also the first line to operate in Ho Chi Minh City, there is no official data, determining costs, revenue, and subsidies is only relative. Therefore, the above ticket price is proposed by the center to be applied on a trial basis for the first phase. After 1 year of operation, a re-evaluation will be conducted and adjustments will be proposed to suit actual conditions.
To attract passengers, this unit also requested MAUR to invest in upgrading to ensure the effectiveness of ticket types on the route, research and add more types of hourly fares, monthly inter-route tickets... to increase the variety of ticket types to meet the needs of each user group.
Groundbreaking in August 2012, the first urban railway line of Ho Chi Minh City is 19.7 km long with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, from Ben Thanh station (District 1) to Long Binh depot (Thu Duc city) with 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. The project is currently more than 95% complete, expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.
