On the afternoon of August 29, at a press conference on the socio -economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, shared information related to the group of 4,500 tourists from India who came to Vietnam but did not choose Ho Chi Minh City as their destination.

According to Mr. Hoa, this is the largest tourist group from India to Vietnam ever, and is a positive signal for Vietnam's tourism industry at the end of the year.

However, this group of tourists chose to visit destinations in Hanoi , Ninh Binh and Quang Ninh instead of Ho Chi Minh City.

Explaining this, Mr. Hoa said that according to the travel trend of Indians, when coming to a country for the first time, they often prioritize visiting the capital first. Then, they explore other cities on subsequent trips.

That is also the reason why Ho Chi Minh City is an attractive destination but was not chosen by the group of 4,500 Indian tourists on this trip.

Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa emphasized that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism always identifies the Indian tourist market as the fastest growing market today, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022 and 2023, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed a group of about 1,000 Indian tourists.

Ho Chi Minh City also has direct flights from India and the most direct airlines compared to other provinces and cities. The city always promotes and advertises to the Indian market, a market with high spending.

At the same time, there is regional linkage with surrounding provinces and cities to promote tourism development.

Mr. Hoa added that at the upcoming international tourism conference, Ho Chi Minh City will also organize a series of activities related to the Indian market such as a seminar on Halal food or the Indian Consulate General will host a seminar to promote tourist exchange between the Vietnamese and Indian markets.

"HCMC always focuses on the Indian market and is ready to welcome large delegations to HCMC," said Mr. Hoa.
