As a reporter who regularly works at the grassroots level, I have the opportunity to meet many disadvantaged people, especially when writing the column “Addresses in need of help” in Hai Duong newspaper. This is a bridge between the less fortunate and the charitable community.
In the 2010s, when social media was not yet developed, many of my articles calling for help for people in difficult circumstances were not widely circulated, few people accessed them, and little support was received. That is why there was a time when I was afraid to write this type of article. I was afraid of sowing hope and then not bringing any results to those people.
But in recent years, thanks to social networks, newspaper articles have been widely shared, receiving attention and support from many philanthropists. I will always remember the case of Cao Xuan Phuc, 10 years old in Hung Dao commune (Chi Linh), living with his grandfather in very difficult circumstances. After the article, his family received more than 47 million VND in support. Phuc's family called to thank me, which made me very emotional.
Previously, in an article about families with children with cerebral palsy in Chi Linh, I mentioned the case of NMK, 3 years old, in Van Duc ward. Although he had cerebral palsy and qualified to be recognized as a severely disabled person, he was still not entitled to social protection. A few months later, his mother called me to inform me that her child had been officially recognized and would receive monthly support. That call made me very happy.
I know that each article is not just a job, but also a way to share, connect and sow hope. That is also what makes me love and appreciate the journalism profession that I am pursuing more.
