The 36th International Biology Olympiad was held in the Philippines from July 19 to July 27, 2025, with the participation of 81 delegations from 81 countries and territories (including 3 observer delegations), and 298 contestants.

The two theoretical exams have 85 questions, with topics revolving around practical global issues such as: Environmental pollution, green growth, carbon neutrality, combating climate change, community disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment of some basic diseases according to the principles of precision medicine.

Four practical exam rooms include: Biomedical with the ability to interpret electrocardiograms, blood and urine biochemistry tests, interpret X-ray images, measure and select antibiotics for common pathological cases; Molecular and cellular biology with the ability to analyze genes, proteins, and measure the activity of molecules in cells to identify and predict the evolution of parasitic pathogens; Ecology and systematics require anatomical and classification skills to serve the identification, monitoring, and development of sustainable fishing and aquaculture activities; Microbiology with the ability to classify and study the development of bacteria and fungi that cause food poisoning in humans.
