On June 4, the Investigation Police Agency of Hung Yen Province Police sent a document to relevant units informing them that they are investigating a criminal case of manufacturing and trading in counterfeit food, foodstuffs, and food additives that occurred at the factory of Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited (Nhat Minh Food Company) in Pho Noi A Industrial Park (Van Lam).
The police investigation determined that from the beginning of 2022 to May 2025, Nhat Minh Company produced refined vegetable oils branded Ofood Cooking Oil and soybean oil branded Ofood.
The above brands are low quality, counterfeit goods. However, these products are distributed to many provinces and cities across the country in large quantities.
To ensure the health of users, Hung Yen Provincial Police requested the Food Safety Department and Market Management Department of provinces and cities to notify distributors about fake products.
At the same time, people are advised not to use these products to ensure their health.
On the other hand, the investigation agency also requested relevant functional units to notify distributors of vegetable oils labeled Ofood Cooking Oil and soybean oil labeled Ofood that they are poor quality and counterfeit goods to stop supplying them to people according to regulations.
Warning in advance, but e-commerce floors still sell
Although the police agency had sent a document requesting cooperation since the beginning of June, it was not until June 24, when Vietnam Television (VTV) broadcast a report on the case of "Cooking oil for animal husbandry turned into food for humans", that people learned about this news and became worried.
Until the evening of June 24, Ofood cooking oil and Ofood Cooking Oil were still being sold on e-commerce platforms. It was not until the morning of June 25 that these products were removed from the platforms.
At the same time, although the document was sent to many agencies, especially the provincial and municipal food safety departments, there was no warning information about the product on the official websites of the departments before VTV posted it.
This also shows that the coordination between agencies in warning and enforcing anti-counterfeiting is not really effective. Consumers are not warned early and continue to use the products under investigation even though they are fake or of poor quality, causing economic and health impacts and losses.
