On August 22, a group of gunmen attacked a truck carrying school children in Punjab province, eastern Pakistan, killing two children and injuring six others, including the driver.

The incident occurred in Attock district, apparently targeting the driver of the school bus, according to police and local officials, the AP news agency reported.
Attock district police chief Ghias Gull said the attackers opened fire on the vehicle and then fled the scene. The dead and injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
A local police official said preliminary investigation results indicated the incident stemmed from a personal conflict between the driver, but did not provide further details.
Police are still investigating to determine the mastermind of the incident and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsoin Naqvi condemned the attack, demanding stern punishment for the perpetrators and best possible medical treatment for the injured.
In recent years, militant attacks have increased in Pakistan, mainly in the northwest region bordering Afghanistan. Attock is a district in Punjab province but is also quite close to this restive northwest region.
In 2014, militants carried out an attack on an army-run school in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing 147 people, including 132 children.
