Building a memorial for international soldiers: A symbol of gratitude in the heart of the capital

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense, has just inspected the construction site of the international soldier memorial at the Vietnam Military History Museum (Hanoi). The project honors the sacrifices and assistance of military experts from other countries during Vietnam's resistance wars, and is expected to be completed before the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, 2025.

Attending the inspection were representatives of the functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense ; Defense Attaches, Military Attaches of the following countries: Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, China, and the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of National Defense's electronic information portal cited a report from the leader of the Vietnam Military History Museum, saying that the project will be built on a 3,000 m2 plot of land within the Vietnam Military History Museum. The contents displayed in the memorial include: a common symbol of the help and sacrifice of military experts from various countries, made of bronze, created by Vietnam; a bronze monument to military experts from the Soviet Union, China, Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, etc., designed and constructed by the countries, or constructed by Vietnam at the request of each country; a monolithic green stone relief designed and constructed by Vietnam. Surrounding the memorial are green spaces and lawns with an overall appropriate design.

Speaking at the inspection, the Defense and Military Attaches of Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, China, and the Russian Federation expressed their deep gratitude to Vietnam for taking practical actions to show gratitude for the help of soldiers from other countries in the resistance war for national independence.

The delegates agreed with the plan and space for the construction of the memorial; at the same time, they said they would report to the competent authorities to unify and coordinate with the Vietnamese side to complete the work as soon as possible.

Concluding the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that the plan and space for the construction of the memorial to international soldiers proposed by the Vietnam Military History Museum received high consensus and agreement from representatives of relevant parties, in accordance with the approved planning. He requested relevant agencies to quickly deploy the work.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien asked the Defense Attachés of the countries to speed up the progress and send their own sketches (if any) of the statues of their soldiers to the Vietnam Military History Museum before June 25 for discussion, evaluation and agreement on implementation.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien assigned the relevant agencies to work directly with the consulting unit and the construction unit on the implementation plan, requesting that it be completed before July 11 to report to the Head of the Ministry of National Defense. The Vietnam Military History Museum has drawn up a preliminary overall design so that the memorial complex for international soldiers, when completed, will be in harmony with the overall space at the Museum, meeting technical and aesthetic requirements, having both high artistic value and cultural, historical, political and diplomatic significance. Strive to complete this meaningful memorial complex before the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
