(PLVN) - According to Mr. Ngo Chung Khanh - Deputy Director of the Multilateral Trade Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), building brands for businesses is one of the most important issues to effectively exploit incentives from FTAs.

Sharing at the recent seminar on the Ecosystem of FTAs, including the EVETTA Agreement, Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City said that Can Tho currently has more than 12,000 operating enterprises, mainly small and medium enterprises, of which 168 are exporting enterprises. In the field of seafood alone, the whole province has 66 enterprises, with more than 50 units exporting to the EU market.

Typical seafood export items include frozen pangasius fillets, whole pangasius, butterfly-cut pangasius, frozen fish, frozen shrimp, canned shrimp, canned crab, sardines, fish cakes, surimi fish cakes, sushi pangasius... Export items such as pangasius and shrimp remain stable in the US, European and Japanese markets. The city's seafood export products have gradually affirmed their quality and brand reputation, bringing high value in the global supply and distribution chain.

At the seminar, Mr. Ngo Chung Khanh - Deputy Director of the Multilateral Trade Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that to exploit the incentives from FTAs, it is necessary to focus on 5 main issues: raw material sources; access to credit capital; access to markets and orders; information on foreign regulations; and brand building.

Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy - an agricultural expert pointed out some advantages of FTAs that help develop long-term export enterprises. However, according to him, seafood exports still face many challenges related to regulations on origin of goods, transportation costs, farming certification and the role of cooperatives in the supply chain. In particular, the issue of removing the EC card is an important challenge for the Vietnamese seafood industry.

At the seminar, Ms. Vu Thuy Linh - Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that with a 3,260km long coastline stretching from North to South, Vietnam is blessed with abundant and diverse aquatic resources. Along with that, the large exclusive maritime economic zone brings special advantages, creating favorable conditions for the development of the aquaculture industry. However, seafood exports still have many problems such as trade barriers, supply of materials and environmental responsibility. Therefore, according to Ms. Linh, sustainable development and compliance with international standards are essential.

Regarding some solutions for Can Tho City in the coming time, Mr. Huynh Thanh Su - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City said that it is necessary to strengthen the connection with ministries, branches, associations and export enterprises. He also emphasized the completion of Class II Logistics Centers and Air Logistics in Can Tho, at the same time, strengthening promotional activities and trade promotion with domestic and foreign partners.
