According to GSMArena , the announcement of the event was posted via Xiaomi EV's newly created Weibo account as the first look at the company's automotive aspirations. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun made it clear that the event will focus solely on technology, dispelling previous rumors about the imminent launch of its first electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7.

Unlike the usual smartphone launch, Lei Jun has insisted on separating technology-related events from product launches. This distinction may come as a surprise to many, leaving enthusiasts wondering whether Xiaomi’s approach is a calculated gamble or a carefully considered strategy to build anticipation. The company appears to be following a phased launch strategy common in the automotive industry, where events lead up to the official launch before pre-orders begin.

Xiaomi’s first electric car is said to be 4,997 mm long, 1,963 mm wide, and between 1,440 mm and 1,455 mm tall, making it stand out from the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Nio ET5 – products that Xiaomi is aiming to compete with.

The SU7 offers different battery options from Chinese giants BYD and CATL, demonstrating the company’s commitment to range and efficiency. With 73.6 kWh and 101 kWh battery capacities, the SU7 caters to a wide range of driving needs. The 73.6 kWh battery offers 628 km and 668 km of range depending on powertrain choice, while the 101 kWh battery pushes the boundaries with impressive 750 km and 800 km of range.

CEO Lei Jun has expressed the company’s aspirations for the SU7, declaring his pursuit of victory in the competitive electric vehicle market. In a recent interview with CCTV, Jun highlighted Xiaomi’s determination to make its mark in the automotive sector.
