On March 26, the 6th Vietnam International Shrimp Industry Technology Exhibition 2025 (VietShrimp 2025) opened in Can Tho city.

With the theme “Greening farming areas”, VietShrimp 2025 has the participation of over 200 booths of nearly 150 domestic and international enterprises and organizations.

According to the Vietnam Fisheries Association, in 2024, the country's shrimp output will reach 1.264 million tons, up 5.3% compared to 2023, of which black tiger shrimp output will reach 284,000 tons and white-leg shrimp will reach 980,000 tons. Shrimp exports will reach more than 4 billion USD, a sharp increase compared to 2023.

This result is thanks to the widespread application of science and technology and high-tech models in shrimp farming. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang - Chairman of the Vietnam Fisheries Association, the proliferation of these farming models has invisibly created pressure on the living environment of shrimp, causing the quality of farming areas to gradually decline.

Therefore, solutions to develop shrimp farming effectively and sustainably are always being sought, especially when the requirements of the world market are becoming more and more stringent, requiring higher environmental friendliness.

“Green production in shrimp farming is the topic that the aquaculture industry is focusing on the most at the moment. This is also consistent with the Party’s development policy, the Government’s commitment as well as the actions of the agriculture and environment sectors in the direction of green economic development,” said Mr. Thang.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Duy Hoa - global technical director of Empyreal & Motiv products of Cargill Group - said that one of the challenges of the animal feed and aquaculture industry is the increasing demand for production but the increasing shortage of fishmeal.

At the same time, protein sources need to be replaced due to sustainable development requirements to protect the environment and biodiversity of marine ecosystems. Particularly in the shrimp farming industry, the challenge of disease requires raw materials for feed production to contribute to sustainable disease management.

"Cargill has produced two concentrated protein sources to address these challenges. Empyreal 75 is anti-nutrient-free, low in ash, fiber and carbohydrates, while Motiv is a bioactive protein that provides shrimp farmers with a solution to reduce stress and minimize the impact of disease," said Dr. Hoa.

VietShrimp 2025 takes place from March 26-28.
