Coach Kiatisak's student was eliminated from the Thai national team for insulting fans

VTC NewsVTC News26/11/2024

In the list of the Thai national team announced before the AFF Cup 2024, Rungrath Poomchantuek was removed even though he was called up in November 2024. Besides professional factors, the reason why the striker born in 1992 was eliminated was partly because of his "slip of the tongue" on social media.

Rungrath Poomchantuek played the full 90 minutes in the match against Laos in the recent FIFA Days. Thailand drew 1-1 with their neighbours.

In this match, Rungrath Poomchantuek did not play well, leaving many disappointments in his return to the national team.

But instead of staying silent, the Bangkok United player chose to argue and attack his fans. Many negative comments appeared on Rungrath Poomchantuek's personal page and the star reacted violently, even insulting the parents of a fan. Rungrath Poomchantuek seemed to understand that he had made a serious mistake and quickly deleted the comment.

Of course, many people took screenshots and turned it into a scandal. Rungrath Poomchantuek posted an apology on his personal Instagram page. He admitted his mistake and said he was too hot-tempered and lost his temper.

Of course, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) did not ignore it. Rungrath Poomchantuek was removed from the team before the 2024 AFF Cup despite being a favorite player of Mr. Ishii Masatada.

Rungrath Poomchantuek played 10 matches under the Japanese coach, including in important tournaments such as the Asian Cup. He has a close relationship with coach Kiatisak. Rungrath Poomchantuek made his debut for the Thai national team when Kiatisak was the head coach.

The Thai national team removed Chanathip Songkrasin and Theerathon Bunmathan from the squad ahead of the 2024 AFF Cup. In addition, other familiar names such as striker Teerasil Dangda, Supachai Jaided, midfielder Sarach Yooyen, center back Elias Dolah, and defender Sasalak Haiprakhon will not participate in the tournament.

Thailand is in Group A with Malaysia, Timor Leste, Singapore and Cambodia.
