11 private schools were fined for increasing tuition fees by more than 10%.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires 11 private schools that increased tuition fees by more than 10% compared to last year to re-declare.

Schools that must make adjustments before June 20 include Viet Nhat, Thang Long, Thu Khoa Huan, Thanh Nhan High Schools; Hai Ba Trung, Phan Chau Trinh, Pham Ngu Lao Secondary and High Schools; and 4 inter-level schools from elementary to high school: Emasi Nam Long, Emasi Van Phuc, Bac My International, and Viet My.

Among these, North American International Primary, Secondary and High School has the highest tuition fee - more than 80 million VND per month; the lowest is Thang Long High School with tuition fee of 1.7 million VND per month (studying two sessions/day).

In addition, 20 other non-public schools have not yet submitted their tuition and other fees for the 2023-2024 school year. The Department also requested that these schools declare their expected fees for all levels of education.

By the end of 2022, Ho Chi Minh City has 2,355 schools, of all types, public, private, and international. Of these, nearly 1,350 public schools charge tuition fees of about VND90,000-1.5 million per month, depending on the level of study and area of residence (primary school is free of tuition). Private schools charge different levels, commonly around VND6-10 million, international schools VND12-90 million per month.

Decree 81 of the Government stipulates that private and non-public educational institutions must publicly disclose the average training cost per student, annual tuition fees, and tuition fees for all levels of education, as well as the roadmap and rate of tuition increase. In particular, the annual increase rate must not exceed 15% for universities and not exceed 10% for preschool and general education.

In addition, according to regulations of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, if schools change tuition fees and service prices during the school year, they must declare to the Department at least one week before implementation.
