Lieutenant General Kwak Jong-geun, commander of the Army Special Operations Command of the Republic of Korea, testified before a parliamentary committee about receiving multiple calls from President Yoon Suk Yeol when martial law was declared.

South Korean military forces gathered outside the National Assembly building in the early morning of December 4.

According to Reuters, Lieutenant General Kwak said on December 10 that President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered the "dragged" of lawmakers from the parliament building after the leader declared martial law in South Korea late on December 3.

"He said to immediately break down the door, go in and drag the people inside out," said General Kwak, referring to lawmakers who were then gathering to prepare to vote on asking the president to lift martial law.

The commander said he decided not to carry out President Yoon's order.

After the National Assembly voted in favor, President Yoon lifted martial law six hours after its declaration.

The Special Operations Command commander's testimony contradicts previous information from military officials that then-Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun was the one who ordered the lawmakers to be pushed out of the parliament building.

Mr. Kim Yong-hyun resigned and was officially arrested early this morning (December 11) for allegedly contributing to President Yoon's "rebellion" plan. The former minister was the first person to be arrested after the incident.

President Yoon is banned from leaving the country and faces a second impeachment vote scheduled for December 14. After the former defense minister was detained, the investigation into President Yoon is expected to accelerate.

Also on December 11, KCNA news agency reported on the power crisis in South Korea, marking the first time the DPRK media reported on political unrest in its neighbor.
