The Indian Navy has now deployed more than 10 warships to enhance its maritime presence from the North and Central Arabian Sea to the Gulf of Aden to thwart any piracy and drone attacks.

The Times of India (TOI) reported that, in addition to deploying warships, the Indian Navy also deployed Marine Corps Commandos (MARCOS).

The Navy is a permanent presence in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and will do whatever it takes to protect India's national interests and facilitate free, fair and open global trade in the region, officials noted.

According to TOI, India is conducting these unprecedented maritime security enhancements independently, as New Delhi has refused to join the US-led multinational “Operation Prosperous Guardian” launched in the Red Sea in December.

Although not part of "Operation Guardian of Prosperity", India still regularly coordinates and exchanges information with all friendly countries such as the US, UK, and France.

Besides, the Indian Navy is also closely coordinating with maritime agencies of other countries to monitor the overall situation and ensure safety of merchant ships.

The Indian-led Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) is also on alert, while the Indian Navy's Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) plays a vital role in maintaining maritime security.

Previously, in December last year, the MV Chem Pluto, carrying 21 sailors, including 20 Indians, was attacked by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and caught fire in the Arabian Sea while en route to India.
