Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican rival Donald Trump heated up the atmosphere in Pennsylvania on October 14 (local time) when they campaigned together there. The two candidates are competing for about 7 million votes in the biggest battleground state of the election. This is also where the presidential vote by mail is taking place.

According to CNN, Ms. Harris spoke in Erie, while Mr. Trump held a rally in a town in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Harris has enjoyed a steady rise in her polling numbers for weeks since she was officially nominated, but polls now show the race is neck and neck, both nationally and in the battleground states that will determine which party wins the White House.

The latest CNN poll shows that about 50% of likely voters support Ms. Harris and 47% support Mr. Trump. According to the polling firm FiveThirtyEight, Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by just 1%.

Harris has been appearing on both traditional and nontraditional platforms in recent days, targeting a variety of voters. Her campaign said she will appear on Fox News for an interview on October 16. This will be her first appearance on the cable channel.

Support for Vice President Harris among likely black voters has increased since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. A poll released last week by The New York Times and Siena College found that nearly 80% of black voters would likely vote for Harris if the presidential election were held in October. Black voters in key battleground states also appear to favor Harris over Trump.

But a recent Times/Siena poll of male voters overall showed Republicans with a significant advantage nationally, with Trump leading 51 percent to Harris’s 40 percent. Democratic strategists have also sounded the alarm that Harris needs to increase her numbers among African-American and Latino voters if she is to defeat Trump, who has increased his turnout among both groups.
