Located in one of the most beautiful places in Central Vietnam, Bach Ma Mountain has an ideal position, looking like a white horse stretching its legs towards the immense sea, about 40km south of the quiet ancient capital of Hue and about 80km north of the bustling city of Da Nang ; located at the end of the Northern Truong Son range stretching from the Vietnam - Laos border to the East Sea with an altitude of about 1,444m above sea level.
Bach Ma's climate is fresh and cool all year round, considered one of the most pleasant climates in the Indochina region; even when the Central region is hot and humid, Bach Ma is still cool and pleasant.
For Hue people, Bach Ma can be considered a spiritual mountain with the legend of its name coming from the story of a general riding a white horse up the mountain; standing from Luong Dien bridge or Ngu Binh mountain looking towards Bach Ma watching the clouds covering the mountain top, one can also recognize the shape of a war horse waiting for its owner for a thousand years.
Until 1933 when the French discovered this place, the chief engineer M. Girard made a detailed plan for the construction of Bach Ma into a high-altitude resort with villas and public works, and even separate areas for afforestation and nature conservation. On the top of the mountain, the French built a place to rest and admire the scenery called Vong Hai Dai. From the Vong Hai Dai position, you can observe the whole view of Hai Van pass, Tuy Van mountain, Cau Hai lagoon, Tu Hien gate, Chan May bay, Truoi lake with Truc Lam Bach Ma, and even the two cities of Hue and Da Nang on clear days.
Then war and time put Bach Ma into oblivion, covering the constructions on the mountain top with green moss and ruins until 1991 when the Bach Ma National Park project was restarted and more than 15 years later it was continuously expanded to its current scale. Today's Bach Ma has become one of the largest National Parks with the most diverse ecosystems in Vietnam, with more than 22,000 hectares of natural area, of which primary forest accounts for 17,000 hectares. The flora and fauna are also extremely rich, with more than 900 species of animals and about 1,400 species of plants. In parallel, some ancient villas built during the French period have been restored and become resorts welcoming domestic and international guests such as Do Quyen, Kim Giao, Sao La villas.
