Is a regular university bridging degree different from working and studying?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên21/12/2023

Sharing about this issue, Dr. Tran Huu Duy, Head of Training Department of Dalat University, said that according to the revised Law on University Education , all forms of training are granted the same degree, including university transfer, regardless of whether it is full-time or part-time study based on a degree.

"However, in terms of training time, the work-study program will be 20% longer than the regular program, because the regular program organizes full-time study, while the work-study program is organized flexibly due to the nature of students who are already working. The program is trained according to the credit system, so the training time depends on the number of credits the student accumulates," Dr. Duy informed.

College graduates who study full-time or part-time university programs will be awarded the same degree.

According to Dr. Duy, at Dalat University, students mainly register for the work-study program, studying in the evenings on weekdays or on Saturdays and Sundays.

Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, also said that these two forms are completely similar, only differing in training time.

"Currently, the regular university transfer program at schools, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, has very few students registering because most of them are working and cannot arrange to study full-time. Most of them choose to work while studying," said Master Son.

It is known that currently, the bridging training is carried out by schools according to Decision No. 18/2017 of the Prime Minister regulating the bridging between intermediate, college and university levels.

Accordingly, the enrollment quota for regular university bridging training and the enrollment quota for part-time bridging training belong to the total quota determined annually for each training major of the university, not exceeding 20% of the corresponding quota for each training major.

Admission will be conducted by examination or selection or a combination of examination and selection as decided by the head of the university according to current regulations on university admission of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Specifically, those with a secondary school diploma who want to transfer to a university level will be admitted together with high school graduates in the annual university entrance exam of the university. Those with a college diploma who want to transfer to a university can apply for transfer to a university in the forms set by the university. They can apply together with high school graduates in the university entrance exam or take a separate transfer entrance exam that the university itself creates and organizes.

Separate entrance exams include: basic subjects, basic subjects of the industry and specialized or vocational practice subjects.

Students of the full-time university bridging program study credits in the training program with full-time students. Students of the part-time program study the content of the training program with corresponding part-time students.
