The 19th ASIAD opened on September 23 and closed on October 8 in Hangzhou (China). The Vietnamese sports delegation has 504 members, including 337 athletes, with the goal of winning 2-5 gold medals.

Sports such as sepak takraw, karate, shooting, boxing, and chess are classified in the key group with the potential to compete for gold medals. The group of sports with the potential to win silver and bronze medals includes rowing, wushu, kurash, athletics, archery, canoeing, swimming, taekwondo, chess, cycling, gymnastics, weightlifting, table tennis, roller skating, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, and fencing.
