Help students get to school
One of the typical activities in social work of Dong Nai press is the work of promoting education.
For the past 22 years, Dong Nai Newspaper has maintained the annual Overcoming Difficulties for the Future Scholarship Program. The most recent time was in December 2024, when the newspaper awarded 100 scholarships, each worth 2 million VND, to poor students who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies.
According to Dong Nai Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Dao Van Tuan, the Overcoming Difficulties for the Future Scholarship Program has so far awarded more than 2,700 scholarships worth over 4.1 billion VND to students of all levels in the province. Through these scholarships, students with less fortunate circumstances are supported to go to school.
Chairman of Dong Nai Province Blind Association NGUYEN BAO TRAN said that many people who received gifts from the Spring Tree Program presented by Dong Nai Newspaper are members of the Provincial Blind Association. The association's leaders appreciate and hope that this meaningful program will be maintained regularly every year.
This year, female student Nguyen Tran Thao Vy (living in Vinh Cuu district) has just completed the 12th grade program and is reviewing to prepare for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. In the 7th grade, Thao Vy was one of the students who received the Overcoming Difficulties for the Future scholarship.
Thao Vy lost her father at a young age and had to live with her grandmother. Her grandmother had to wash dishes for restaurants to pay for rent and send her grandchild to school.
Thao Vy said that the Overcoming Difficulties for the Future Scholarship Program helped her have the opportunity to go to school.
According to Mr. Nguyen Phi Long, a teacher at Phu Hoa Secondary School (Dinh Quan District), many students of the school have received the Overcoming Difficulties for the Future scholarship. Teachers and students hope that this scholarship will be maintained so that more students with difficulties can access it.
The Le Dinh Nhon scholarship, implemented by Dong Nai Radio and Television, has been implemented since 2012. Each year, about 100 ethnic minority students in the province receive this scholarship.
Cham student Phuong Nghi (Cham ethnic, residing in Xuan Lap ward, Long Khanh city) is studying at university in Ho Chi Minh City. Phuong Nghi shared that for many reasons, her older sister had to drop out of school early to help her parents pay for her education. Therefore, the money received from scholarships, including the Le Dinh Nhon scholarship, has helped Phuong Nghi have more conditions to go to school.
Accompanying the needy
Along with the scholarship program, Dong Nai press also carries out many social charity activities, each program attracts the participation of all classes of people.
On the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025, Dong Nai Newspaper presented 410 Spring Tree gifts to people in difficult circumstances in Bien Hoa city, Xuan Loc district and Ba Tri district ( Ben Tre province).
According to Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Chairman of Dong Nai Newspaper's Trade Union Dinh Kim Tuan, from 2004 to present, Dong Nai Newspaper has organized 22 Spring Tree Programs. Through that, the newspaper has given nearly 6,000 Tet gifts to support poor people in and outside the province to have more conditions to welcome the new year.
Venerable Thich Thien Tri, Chief of Office of the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, said that the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha had the opportunity to join the Spring Tree Program organized by Dong Nai Newspaper. If conditions permit, the Executive Committee will try to join Dong Nai Newspaper in implementing this meaningful program.
In addition, through articles about especially difficult circumstances that are waiting for the community’s help, Dong Nai newspapers have touched the hearts of readers. Since then, many less fortunate circumstances have been helped.
On September 4, 2024, Dong Nai Newspaper published an article: Female student with rare disease needs help. On the same day, the Editorial Board of Dong Nai Newspaper visited the hospital and presented 100 million VND from a kind reader in Bien Hoa city to the family of D.D.K. (17 years old, residing in Hoa An ward, Bien Hoa city) who suffers from a rare autoimmune encephalitis. By September 12, 2024, many kind readers had transferred money to Dong Nai Newspaper or directly to the family of this female student with a total amount of more than 126 million VND.
