In 2021, Djokovic was also honored by this prestigious French sports newspaper. Tennis players who have been awarded this title include Andre Agassi (1999), Roger Federer (2005, 2006, 2007) and Rafael Nadal (2010, 2013, 2019).

Tennis player Serena Williams was honored by L'Equipe three times, and Iga Swiatek was crowned in 2022.

L'Equipe assessed that Djokovic had an extraordinary season, when he participated in all 4 Grand Slam finals in 2023 and won 3 championships. This is the 4th season in his career, Djokovic won 3/4 Grand Slams.

In 2023, Djokovic participated in 12 tournaments and won 7 championships. Nole also reached the milestone of 404 weeks holding the world No. 1 position of the International Tennis Association (ATP).

After winning his 24th Grand Slam, Djokovic confidently looks forward to the 2024 Australian Open taking place from January 14-28, 2024. Nole will participate in the tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Rafael Nadal (ATP rank 672) is allowed to enter the 2024 Australian Open from the first round, thanks to the ranking protection. Dominic Thiem (ATP rank 98) and Emma Raducanu (WTA rank 298) have to compete from the qualifying round.

ATP officially introduced a new scoring system from 2024. The Grand Slam champion still receives 2,000 points, but the runner-up has its bonus points increased from 1,200 to 1,300. The player who wins the ATP Masters 1,000 still receives 1,000 points, while the runner-up receives 650 points, 50 points more than in previous years.
