On January 28, information from the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Quang Binh Provincial Police, the unit has just presided over and coordinated with professional departments and Dong Hoi City Police, Quang Ninh District Police to break up a case, arresting a group of 7 people specializing in hacking social network accounts to defraud and appropriate property.

Seven young men were arrested, including: Vo Van Hung, Nguyen Ngoc Hieu, Nguyen Xuan Kien, Nguyen Van Toai, Nguyen Tung Lam (all born in 2006); Nguyen Van Sang (born in 2004), Vo Van Anh (born in 2003), all residing in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh.
Around the beginning of 2023, members of this group went online to learn how to illegally take over Facebook accounts of many people nationwide.
Then change the password, hack in, use the stolen Facebook account to send messages asking to borrow and appropriate money.
They also created about 20 different bank accounts and bought many more "junk" bank accounts online to conceal the receipt of fraudulent money from victims.
It is estimated that the total transactions in the bank accounts used by the subject are about 8 billion VND.
Regarding the act of hacking Facebook accounts to appropriate property, previously, in June 2023, Da Nang City Police also arrested a group including Nguyen Quang Duc (28 years old, residing in Trieu Tai commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province), Tran Le Quang Vu (27 years old), Le Phuoc Thanh (33 years old), Nguyen Xuan Dung (33 years old, all residing in Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province) and Tran Viet Long (30 years old, residing in Ban Gian commune, Lap Thach district, Vinh Phuc province).
Through the investigation, the group initially confessed that from October 2022 until their arrest, the group hacked and took over the Facebook accounts of many people, then impersonated them to commit fraud and appropriate property.
Using the above tricks, they have defrauded more than 500 victims nationwide, appropriating nearly 5 billion VND. All the money they have appropriated, the subjects used for the purpose of playing online games and buying and selling Bitcoin.
