Xinhua News Agency reported on August 3 that at around 8:22 p.m. on August 1, authorities received a report that five people who had gone to Baima Mountain in Huidong County for fun had been swept away by floodwaters and were missing.
Immediately, local authorities organized search and rescue activities. However, the rescue work encountered many difficulties due to complex terrain and strong currents, while the location of the incident was a deserted area that was not open to the public.

In addition, factors such as low night visibility, multiple undercurrents in the river, and continuous heavy rain in recent days have also posed many challenges to rescue work, according to the county's Emergency Management Bureau.
A total of more than 1,300 rescue workers were mobilized in the search and rescue operation.
At around 2:15 p.m. on August 3, the bodies of the five missing victims were found. One of the victims was only 17 years old.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
Guangdong Province's flood and drought relief headquarters said the province has activated a level IV emergency response to deal with the heavy rain.
Some coastal cities and counties in eastern Guangdong and the southern Pearl River Delta are expected to experience unusually heavy rain, Xinhua reported.
Local authorities are required to strengthen analysis and promptly deploy emergency response measures to ensure people's safety and minimize damage caused by natural disasters.
