The victim was a male, driving a motorbike when a truck ran over his abdomen in the Can Giuoc area ( Tay Ninh province). The accident caused severe damage to the patient's left abdomen, with a large open wound of about 10x10cm, exposing many crushed organs. Part of the spleen was severed and lay outside the abdomen, accompanied by a state of hemorrhagic shock, threatening his life.
The patient was quickly given first aid at the lower level with emergency measures: pressure bandage to stop bleeding, intubation to protect the airway and transfer to another hospital within the "golden time".
At People's Hospital 115, the "internal red alert" procedure was activated. The patient was taken straight to the operating room. The surgical team mobilized doctors from many specialties including: General Surgery, Urology, Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Anesthesia and Resuscitation to coordinate the treatment of the injuries.
According to Dr. Dang Khai Toan, Deputy Head of the General Surgery Department, after 4 hours of surgery, doctors drained the left pleura, sutured the diaphragm, removed the remaining spleen and left kidney due to irreparable damage. The patient was also transfused with more than 3 liters of blood and blood products to resuscitate and correct coagulation disorders caused by acute blood loss.
The patient's health is now stable, having overcome the critical stage and being discharged from the hospital. However, due to the loss of the spleen and one kidney, the patient needs regular monitoring and long-term medical advice to prevent complications.
