The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Vietnam has been proactively and actively promoting balanced and sustainable trade and investment cooperation with the US in the spirit of efficiency, frankness, constructiveness, equality, mutual respect, bringing benefits to both sides.

"Negotiations between Vietnam and the US on the US's reciprocal tax policy on Vietnamese exports are being implemented, specific information will be provided later," said Ms. Hang.

Previously, on May 5, at the opening session of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that from May 7, Vietnam will conduct reciprocal tax negotiations with the US.

Vietnam has begun negotiations and is among the six countries prioritized by the US for negotiations (including the UK, India, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia) out of more than 100 economies.

The Prime Minister also stated that the Government has been directing the negotiating delegation and ministries and agencies to monitor the situation, urgently complete plans and be ready to negotiate with the US in the spirit of "harmonizing benefits - sharing risks".

Chairing a meeting of the Government Standing Committee with relevant ministries, sectors and agencies on preparations for trade negotiations with the US on May 6, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries and sectors to promptly handle issues of concern to the US, step up negotiations, and increase imports of equipment and goods that the US has strengths in and that Vietnam needs in order to gradually achieve a sustainable trade balance.
