US Treasury Department accuses Chinese hackers

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên01/01/2025

Initial investigation results show that on December 8, 2024, the hackers disabled the network security barrier provided by a third party, BeyondTrust (USA). The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the FBI jointly intervened to determine the scope of the hacker attack, which according to the Treasury Department was "a major incident".

In response to Washington's accusations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning yesterday denied any involvement by the Chinese government. "China always opposes all forms of hacking attacks," Xinhua quoted the spokesman as saying.

A BeyondTrust representative said the company discovered and responded to the security incident in early December 2024. Some BeyondTrust customers were affected by the incident, and the company is cooperating with the investigation.
