Mr Kuleba's resignation letter was posted on Facebook by Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk.

Mr. Kuleba, 43, is Ukraine's most famous face abroad after President Zelenskyy, meeting leaders around the world and lobbying for military and political support for Ukraine in fluent English.

Mr. Zelenskyy is expected to nominate a candidate for the position of Foreign Minister today (September 4), in which Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is one of the leading candidates.

Earlier on September 3, Ukraine saw five key cabinet members resign, including Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, and the ministers of Justice, Environment and Reintegration. The move was seen by a senior Zelenskyy ally as the start of a “rebuilding” of the Ukrainian government ahead of the fall and winter. More resignations and appointments are expected in the coming days.

Parliamentary committees will consider the resignations and then parliament will vote on them to complete the procedure, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said. The new appointments could be approved as early as September 5.

Mr Zelenskyy said changes in the Ukrainian government were necessary to achieve the results Ukraine demanded. "The fall will be extremely important for Ukraine. Our state institutions must be structured in such a way that Ukraine achieves all the results we need," he said on September 3.

The Kremlin said changes in government in Ukraine would not affect the peace talks in any way, although such talks appear a distant prospect given the two sides' very different goals.
