While touring the US and Europe, Bob Dylan - the music legend and Nobel Prize winner for Literature - still took time to paint, capturing everyday moments with simple black and white pencil strokes.

There's a sadness in Bob Dylan's books

The book includes not only illustrations, but also short essays by authors Lucy Sante, Jackie Hamilton and producer Eddie Gorodetsky, who collaborated with Dylan on the Theme Time Radio Hour and the book The Philosophy of Modern Song published in 1995.   his 2022

According to the representative of the publisher Simon & Schuster, the drawings in Point Blank were done by Dylan in 2021 and 2022, depicting familiar images in everyday life: rolls of tape, karaoke singers, roller skates, suits of armor, suspension bridges...

"There's a sadness in the writing, but it's not dark, it's hopeful and funny," said Sean Manning, vice president and chief publishing officer of Simon & Schuster.

Point Blank is seen as Dylan's gentle but powerful transition from musical storyteller to painter capturing everyday life with quiet, emotional lines.

For decades, Bob Dylan kept his passion for painting largely secret. It wasn’t until 2007 that he began exhibiting his paintings. Since then, his paintings have appeared in major art spaces around the world, including New York, London, and Shanghai. Dylan also published a book of paintings, The Drawn Blank Series, in 2008.

His art has received mixed reviews. In 2012, New York Times critic Roberta Smith wrote that "Dylan's attempts to become a painter have gone from bad to worse."

However, The Guardian 's Jonathan Jones was more positive in a 2016 article: "Dylan doesn't just draw for fun. He has a keen eye for observation. His drawings are detailed, sincere and full of curiosity."

Currently, some paintings based on the ones in Point Blank are on display at the Halcyon Gallery (London), running until July 6.

In conjunction with the release of the picture book, Bob Dylan also released an unabridged audiobook version of his memoir Chronicles: Volume I (2004), with a reading by actor Sean Penn. The new version is 10 hours long, twice as long as the previous recording.

Many fans are still waiting for a sequel to Dylan's memoir Chronicles , which has been in the works for a long time but has yet to announce a release date.

At 83, Bob Dylan shows that he is still an artist who continues to create, whether on stage, on paper or on canvas.
