Ms. Tham, a fish seller at My Phu market, Cao Lanh ward, Dong Thap province, said that young linh fish have been available for 10 days, as big as chopsticks, and are quite expensive, from 300,000 to 350,000 VND per kilogram.
A few days ago, the price dropped rapidly to 200,000 VND, due to more goods arriving at the market.

"This year, the price of linh fish has dropped rapidly. Currently, I import 5-7 kg per day," said Ms. Tham, adding that because the cleaning process takes a lot of time, she is reluctant to import a lot.
Nearby, Ms. Huong is also selling linh fish for the same price of 200,000 VND per kilogram. She said this is 100% natural linh fish. About 10 days ago, she was not sure if it was a natural source of fish or not, because it could be a source of forced fish (farmed fish). "Farmed fish are bigger, all the same size, and not as tasty," she said.
Not only bustling in traditional markets, young linh fish are also sold by many people through online channels. Mr. Tuan, who lives in Thuong Phuoc commune (formerly Hong Ngu district), Dong Thap province, specializes in selling freshwater fish, said that young linh fish have only been available naturally for about a week now.
He sells and delivers to customers in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or urban areas in the West and East. "The first season of young linh fish has soft bones, sweet and fatty meat. It is delicious when cooked in sour soup or braised with wild vegetables such as dien dien, lotus, and spinach," he shared.

The flood season in the West usually begins in the beginning of the 7th lunar month and lasts until October, which is August-November in the solar calendar. Flooding - one of the characteristics of the West - when the water comes back helps clean the fields, deposit alluvium, and kill weeds, rats, etc.
Water also brings products such as linh fish, field crabs, eels, snakes, water lilies, and sesbania... People catch products to sell to earn extra income during the off-season months.
