The Iraqi government on December 25 condemned a bomb-laden drone attack on an airbase housing US-led coalition forces near Erbil airport in Iraq's semi-autonomous northern Kurdish region.

In a statement, Iraqi Prime Minister Yahya Rasoul's spokesman said the attack occurred near Erbil civilian airport, injuring several people and affecting airport operations.

Mr. Rasoul called the attack a "terrorist act" and "such criminal acts are aimed at harming the interests of Iraq."

In addition, the statement said, the attack by the Iraqi armed group was part of a series of retaliatory measures against US forces amid the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

An armed group called the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" has claimed responsibility for the recent attack, adding that it launched a bomb-laden drone at the US Green Village military base near the al-Omar oil field in Syria.
