According to documents, in 1328, Navy Admiral Le Van Dat discovered that the islands in the Binh Khang sea area (now Khanh Hoa) had swallows making nests. He sent troops to protect and exploit them, from which the bird's nest industry was born and he was honored as the founder of this industry in Vietnam.

Currently, swiftlets still live in flocks on Yen Island. Khanh Hoa Province has assigned a state-owned company to manage and exploit the bird's nests on the island.

On the 10th day of the 5th lunar month in 1793, in the battle to defend the island, Mrs. Le Thi Huyen Tram, her father and other soldiers sacrificed their lives. Since then, the people have honored her as the Holy Mother of the Island and built a temple to worship her on Yen Island.
