Welcoming a newborn baby weighing 5.1 kg in Phu Tho

The Obstetrics and Pediatrics Center, Phu Tho General Hospital has just welcomed the heaviest newborn baby ever born at this unit.

According to Specialist Doctor Vu Thi Thanh Huong, Head of the Department of Gynecology and Endocrinology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics Center, Phu Tho General Hospital, the entire surgical team of the Center was very surprised and happy to welcome a baby boy weighing up to 5.1 kg born by cesarean section.
This is also the case of the heaviest newborn baby ever born at the Maternity and Pediatrics Center.
Currently, the health of the mother and baby is stable and is being monitored and cared for at the Department of Obstetrics and Infectious Diseases.
According to the baby's relatives, this is the mother's first birth. The baby boy's family lives in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho.
“Congratulations to the family and wish the baby to always be obedient and healthy. The baby's nickname is Milk,” the medical staff happily shared.
According to obstetricians, in Vietnam, the average weight of newborn boys is 3.3 kg. According to the standard chart for monitoring children's development by the Institute of Nutrition, a 2-month-old boy weighs 5.6 kg and a 2-month-old girl weighs 5.1 kg.
In Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Health, the heaviest newborn to date is a baby boy born in 2017, weighing 7.1 kg in Vinh Tuong district, Vinh Phuc .
Previously, in 2008, a baby girl weighing nearly 7 kg was born (by caesarean section) at Gia Lai General Hospital. Two other “heavyweight” cases were a newborn girl weighing 6.5 kg in Da Nang (in 2006) and a newborn boy weighing 6.5 kg (living in Quang Nam) born in 2015.
In 2016, the mother (32 years old, in Nam Dinh) gave birth to a 6.1 kg baby boy by cesarean section.
