An Israeli military spokesman has just said that Hezbollah's rocket flew over Tel Aviv for the first time, but was intercepted by Israel's defense system.
The Israeli Air Force also successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from Syria flying into Israeli territory south of the Sea of Galilee.
Since October 2023, Hezbollah has repeatedly attacked Israeli residential areas and military bases along the border with Lebanon, claiming the move was in support of Palestinians in Gaza amid a fierce conflict.Fighting has intensified in recent days as Tel Aviv has launched military operations to push Hezbollah back from its borders and weaken the group’s military capabilities, allowing the return of some 60,000 people displaced in northern Israel by Hezbollah rocket attacks over the past 11 months. New Israeli airstrikes have also displaced tens of thousands of people in southern Lebanon.
Notably, the explosion of communications equipment in Lebanon on September 17-18 killed at least 39 people and injured nearly 3,000. Hezbollah accused Israel of being behind everything, but Tel Aviv did not make any comments.
On September 22-24, Hezbollah launched hundreds of rockets into northern Israel, about 50-60 km from the Lebanese border, marking the largest and deepest attack on Israeli territory that the organization has carried out in nearly a year.
Hezbollah has said it will only cease fire once the conflict in Gaza ends. However, many Israelis fear that the north will remain at risk as long as Iranian-backed militias remain active on the border.
