Witnesses said the fire started in room 511 on the fifth floor, which was confirmed to be a smoky area. Firefighters extinguished the fire after about an hour.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the fire caused smoke to spread rapidly despite the fire alarm being raised in time. He also said seven people were injured, including two Thais, a Japanese, a foreigner, a German woman and man, and a Chinese man, who were being treated in hospital.

Authorities are still determining the nationalities of those killed and investigating the cause of the fire. Governor Chadchart has ordered an inspection of escape routes in hotels and entertainment venues across the city to ensure the safety of tourists .

Police and fire services are continuing their investigation, while local authorities have vowed to improve fire prevention and safety checks in tourist areas.
