Fire at 800-year-old pagoda causes about 25 billion VND in damage

(CLO) On the afternoon of October 23, the People's Committee of Lam Thao district ( Phu Tho province) has just issued a quick report on the fire at Pho Quang pagoda, Xuan Lung commune at noon of the same day.


According to the report of Lam Thao District People's Committee, the fire did not cause any human casualties. However, all the wooden parts, roof tiles, electrical system were burned down, and the clay and wooden statues in Tam Bao temple were damaged by the heat; the total preliminary material damage was about 25 billion VND.

Pho Quang Pagoda, Xuan Lung Commune, Lam Thao District caught fire fiercely.

Previously, at around 10:00 a.m. on October 23, 2024, people in Xuan Lung commune discovered a fire at Pho Quang pagoda (also known as Xuan Lung pagoda) in zone 4, Xuan Lung commune, Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province.

Immediately after receiving the news, the district directed the functional forces to notify Lam Thao Superphosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company to coordinate in deploying fire trucks, and at the same time reported and proposed to the Provincial Police to direct the mobilization of fire fighting vehicles.

Fire trucks were present at the scene to help put out the fire.

At 10:15, the Fire Department was present at the scene. At about 11:40, the fire was controlled, extinguished, the scene was protected and the initial investigation into the cause of the fire was underway.

Pho Quang Pagoda is a national historical and cultural relic, recognized by the State in Decision No. 92- VHTT/QD, dated July 10, 1980 of the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). The overall architectural plan of Xuan Lung Pagoda includes: Tam Quan - bell tower, stele house, Tam Bao building. The pagoda was built over 800 years ago and still preserves many valuable relics and antiques.
