Vietnamese warship participates in multinational exercise in India

Vietnam's light frigate 20 participated in the Milan-2024 exercise in India, along with naval forces from nearly 50 countries.

The Milan-2024 multilateral naval exercise took place from February 19-27 in the Indian city of Visakhapatnam with the participation of naval ships from 47 countries. The activity was divided into two phases, including shore exercises and live-fire exercises in the waters east of the city. Navies from various countries also participated in street parades, sports competitions, and cultural exchanges.

Host country India mobilized nearly 20 warships, including two aircraft carriers, and about 50 aircraft of various types for the exercise.

The Vietnam People's Navy sent light frigate 20 of Brigade 172, Naval Region 3, to participate in the event, alongside many powers such as Russia, the US, the UK, Japan, South Korea and Iran.

This is the third time the Vietnam People's Navy has participated in the Milan exercise to continue improving coordination and cooperation in responding to maritime security challenges, enhancing friendship, understanding and mutual trust between the armies and navies of the countries, for peace , stability, cooperation and development of the region and the world.

Participating in Milan-2024 is also an opportunity for the crew of the 20th frigate to train for long-distance sea voyages, improve organizational capacity, command coordination, combat readiness, master weapons and equipment in long-term operations at sea, complex weather conditions, accumulate experience in participating in and organizing international events, and reconnaissance to grasp the situation of sea areas along the journey.

Ship 20 is the second Pohang-class light frigate transferred by South Korea and put into service with the Vietnam People's Navy since 2018.

The ship has a full load displacement of 1,300 tons, a maximum speed of 59 km/h, and a range of 7,000 km. The warship's weapons include two 76 mm Oto Melara automatic gun mounts, two 40 mm Otobreda twin-barreled gun mounts, two 324 mm torpedo launchers, and many 12.7 mm machine guns./.
