On December 12, the USAID-funded Partnership for Higher Education Innovation (PHER) project held an evaluation of the project implementation results for the 2022-2024 period.

Innovation in 4 main pillars

The PHER project is implemented by Indiana University (USA), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). PHER connects domestic and foreign partners and experts to support three major universities in Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi National University and Danang University in implementing strategic activities to become modern higher education institutions.

The project focuses on four main pillars including innovation in university governance, improving the quality of teaching and learning, enhancing research and innovation capacity, and strengthening university-business connections.

Many activities to improve university education

Over the past two years, the project has implemented a series of activities in all four components above. Accordingly, more than 2,000 leaders, lecturers, researchers, officials, and lecturers from three universities and 19 member schools have been trained to improve their management capacity, teaching capacity, research capacity, and skills development.

The project also deploys a results-based management system (KPI), a management information system (MIS), and builds Dashboards for operations.

In addition, the internal quality assurance of training programs is improved through the development of processes, tools, and guidelines to ensure that training programs meet the needs of learners and the labor market, aiming to develop quality human resources...

At the same time, the leadership and key management staff of the three universities have improved their leadership capacity and learned the management model from Indiana University (USA).

The project also helps 620 lecturers from three universities develop their teaching expertise through intensive training courses.

PHER has helped universities review and prepare 17 programs for accreditation according to ASIIN (Accreditation Council for Engineering, Information and Natural Sciences Programs) and ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs).

The three universities are also supported to improve their research capacity through activities such as building and developing Vietnam-International Academic Networks (VIAN); improving research management and support systems; implementing scholar exchange programs...

Professor Tran Ngoc Anh, head of the PHER project, said: "With the results achieved, the project hopes to effectively contribute to promoting innovation in higher education in Vietnam, meeting the goal of improving the quality of human resources, serving the cause of industrialization, modernization and international integration of Vietnam".

At the event, the three universities exchanged and discussed lessons learned in the past and agreed on implementation plans for the coming period.
