The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) said that at 10:30 p.m. on July 17, electricity consumption in 17 northern provinces and cities (from Ha Tinh and beyond, excluding Hanoi ) reached 18,242 MW, the highest level since the beginning of the year.

This consumption level has surpassed the previous record of 18,084MW recorded on the evening of June 2, 2025, and far surpassed the peak electricity consumption in 2024 of 17,300MW at 10:00 p.m. on August 10, 2024.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on July 17, the North continued to be affected by heat waves, with some places experiencing severe heat waves with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-38 degrees Celsius, even exceeding 38 degrees Celsius in some places. The lowest relative humidity during the day is commonly from 50-55%.

Prolonged hot weather has increased the demand for air conditioners and cooling equipment, especially during peak hours in the evening, which is the main reason why the Northern power system is under great pressure.

Faced with this reality, EVNNPC is focusing all resources to ensure safe, stable and continuous power supply for more than 11 million customers in the region. At the same time, the unit recommends that people, businesses and agencies proactively implement measures to use electricity economically and effectively.

Specifically, the electricity industry recommends not using electricity at the same time during peak hours from 13-15 pm and from 20-23 pm every day.

People should prioritize devices with energy-saving labels, turn off unnecessary devices when leaving the room, unplug when not in use, and limit the simultaneous use of many high-power devices during peak hours.

For air conditioning, maintain the temperature at 26-27 degrees Celsius and use a fan to increase cooling efficiency.

EVNNPC also encourages customers to monitor their daily electricity consumption through the customer care application or the electricity industry website, thereby adjusting their usage behavior appropriately.

In addition, households and production and business establishments are encouraged to invest in rooftop solar power systems according to the self-production and self-consumption model, in order to contribute to reducing the load on the grid and moving towards the goal of sustainable energy development.

Using electricity economically and efficiently not only helps reduce bills, but also plays an important role in ensuring national energy security, especially during the peak summer season of 2025./.
