If successful, it would be the first time a Japanese private company has accomplished this feat.

ispace's Resilience lander lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida on January 15. Its mission is to deliver a rover and experimental equipment to the northern hemisphere of the Moon. The lander is expected to enter lunar orbit in early May this year.

ispace aims to land the lander near the center of the Mare Frigoris region at 4:24 a.m. on June 6 (Japan time).

In April 2023, the company made its first attempt to land its lander on the Moon, but it was unsuccessful.

ispace CEO Takeshi Hakamada said the spacecraft's operations have improved significantly and it is now in good condition. The company is confident the spacecraft will land successfully.

Previously, in February 2024, the American company Intuitive Machines became the first private company to successfully land a lander on the surface of the Moon. The American company Firefly Aerospace's lander, launched on the same rocket as ispace's Resilience lander in January, successfully landed on the Moon on February 28. This lander landed on the Moon on a different route than ispace's lander.
