On September 27, according to documents from Canada's Foreign Interference Committee, a former Canadian politician was suspected of trying to influence the work of Parliament on behalf of a foreign government.

Canadian authorities have not yet released clear information about the MP’s identity, party affiliation, or the country he is accused of working with. However, this is an unprecedented case of direct foreign interference in Canadian democracy.
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies, has compiled a list of six notable cases of suspected foreign interference in recent years.
Four cases were detailed in a previous hearing by Judge Marie-Josee Hogue regarding foreign influence operations in the 2019 and 2021 elections.
The two remaining cases that have never been made public are that of the MP mentioned above and the other about a country trying to prevent the election of a Liberal MP.
It is suspected that this foreign government sought to prevent the Liberal Party candidate from being elected to the federal Parliament because of his support for issues deemed contrary to the interests of that foreign government .
China is seen as the most active country in interfering in Canadian affairs, followed by India. In addition, the conflict in the Middle East could also lead to Iran interfering in the next election.
