According to information from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the accident occurred on July 11 when a man riding a motorbike lost control and fell into a pile of steel, resulting in a series of serious injuries.
The patient was admitted to the hospital with a ruptured liver, ruptured diaphragm, ruptured colon, lung impact, complex chest and abdominal injuries exposing all internal organs, lungs, and multiple injuries to the face, chest, and abdomen.
The patient was urgently transferred from Hung Yen General Hospital to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in a state of severe shock, severe blood loss, and life-threatening every minute.
According to Dr. Cao Manh Thau - Oncology and Radiation Therapy Department, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, as soon as the patient was admitted, the hospital activated the internal red alert and mobilized specialized teams to coordinate emergency treatment.
During the surgery, the patient was continuously transfused with 4 liters of blood to compensate for the severe blood loss. Doctors performed a pleural drain, sutured the ruptured liver, cut the colon and put both ends together to create a temporary colostomy. Combined the broken arm and ankle bones; treated complex wounds with loss of skin and muscle covering the organs in the chest and abdomen; treated complex wounds in the maxillofacial area.
Thanks to close coordination, high expertise and timely response between specialties, after emergency and intensive resuscitation, the patient's condition has gradually stabilized. Currently, the patient is conscious, stable and has been transferred to other specialties for intensive treatment.
Doctor Thau, who directly participated in the emergency, warned that serious traffic accidents often lead to the victim being shocked, bleeding heavily, exposing internal organs, and having head, chest, and abdominal injuries.
In this case, the victim needs to be given first aid and quickly taken to the nearest medical facility or directly to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
"Early emergency care, timely and proper first aid, multidisciplinary coordination, and maintaining communication channels for consultation between hospitals are decisive factors in the survival and minimizing sequelae for patients.
"For patients with complex multiple injuries requiring surgery, accurate assessment of the patient's condition; preparation of personnel for surgery; intraoperative resuscitation; rapid surgery to resolve critical injuries; and especially good post-operative care and resuscitation are extremely important," Dr. Thau emphasized.
