GB News said Mr Johnson would serve as a presenter, editor and commentator from early 2024 and would play a key role in covering the UK's next national election, due to take place next year, as well as the US elections.

The channel, which launched in 2021 and features a mix of news, opinion and analysis similar to America's Fox News, has been ruled by the UK's broadcasting watchdog to have breached impartiality rules on multiple occasions.

Mr Johnson, the main political leader behind the Brexit movement, became prime minister in 2019 and won a large majority in an election later that year. But he stepped down in 2022 after a series of scandals cost him the support of many Conservative lawmakers.

Mr Johnson, who worked as a journalist before entering politics, began writing a column for the Daily Mail in June this year.
